New homes given the green light at former engineering site in Shirley

Detailed plans have been approved for a new housing development in Shirley which will provide new homes for the local area.

Bellway is planning to build 260 new homes at Lucas Green as part of a wider new neighbourhood on the former Lucas Engineering headquarters site off Dog Kennel Lane.

A hybrid planning application for the wider site was granted permission in March 2019, and Bellway’s detailed proposals for its first 76 new homes have now been given the green light by Solihull Council.

Bellway’s plans include 59 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 17 affordable homes for local people, including one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses. There will also be public open space with a pond and play facilities along a cycle and pedestrian route.

The first homes at Lucas Green are expected to be released for sale early this year.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “Our plans for these new homes at Lucas Green will provide a good mix of housing for the local area, on a brownfield site which enjoys a well-connected location just nine miles from Birmingham city centre.

“It’s also less than two miles from Whitlocks End railway station and Junction 4 of the M42, while Solihull town centre is less than three miles from home.

“At Bellway, quality is always our top priority and potential buyers can expect to find modern homes that are built to last at Lucas Green.

“Anyone interested in the development can register their details at the Bellway website so we can keep them informed about the first homes being released for sale.”

The new development follows on from the success of Bellway’s Tidbury Heights – a collection of homes in Tidbury Green, just over three miles from Shirley.
