Land & Water Third Party Framework

Land & Water is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the Canal & River Trust’s third party funded dredging tender consisting of three major projects across the country. Land & Water’s partnership with the charity, Canal & River Trust, can be dated back 20 years, a partnership that has been grown and built on through Land & Water’s collaborative approach and long-term commitment of the improvement of Britain’s waterways.

Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Highways England, and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, Land & Water will be carrying out a 20-week dredging programme at Titford Pools, a project with an estimated value of £3m. The site is located under the M5 in Oldbury, Birmingham.

Land & Water Third Party Framework

Land & Water is providing a full-turn key package for this project from the pre-start works and planning right through to the delivery and handover. Land & Water will be using its own plant for the project with two mobilised dredging teams working in the upper and lower pool to ensure economic benefit.

With a focus on the environment, Land & Water investigated a number of disposal options for the hazardous material being removed. The team chose to transport the sealed material to Augean at Kings Cliffe, Peterborough where the material will be re-used with a further lifespan. Land & Water has an exclusive national agreement with Augean Plc, which has enabled the company to secure a special significantly reduced rate of disposal. The relationship with Augean provides Land & Water with a guaranteed destination for this high volume of hazardous material and upon commencement of the works, and the team will be provided with a ‘priority’ lane at the disposal facility. This will reduce waiting times at the tip and allow consistent, unhindered return trips for its wagons.

Land & Water Third Party Framework

Whilst on site, Land & Water is also looking to engage with the local community to educate individuals about the area and works taking place and how the project will improve water quality and biodiversity. The company will be organising a number of open days and coffee mornings for residents to find out more.

As part of the same tender there will also be two further Canal & River Trust dredging projects in Swansea and in the Monmouthshire and Brecon region at Pontymoile.  Both projects will see Land & Water using both specialist and purpose built equipment for these major dredging programmes.

Adrian Gascoyne, Managing Director at Land & Water comments: “I am personally delighted that we have been successful in securing another Framework Contract with the Canal & River Trust. It is testament to show that being truly collaborative, innovative and open with each other keeps bringing us all success. We will strive to continue to innovate, improve and deliver all round value to our client and look forward to building our relationship further over the next seven years.”
