National property services provider, Wates Smartspace, is underway with year four of a major programme to carry out lift refurbishments on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP).

The fourth year of the DWP’s lift modernisation programme has seen Wates Smartspace embark on a combination of lift refurbishments and new installations at 27 locations in the DWP’s UK-wide estate.

The appointment closely follows Wates Smartspace’s completion of year three of the lift programme, which included a £4.6m lift refurbishment across 30 operational DWP sites last year.

With the fourth year of the programme well underway, Wates Smartspace is set to complete the work in April 2022.

Scott Camp Managing Director for Wates Smartspace commented: “Our delivery of year four of the lift refurbishment programme is enabling us to build upon our excellent relationship with the DWP. Our appointment was underpinned by a commitment to maintaining continuity of the Smartspace team and a commitment to working collaboratively with partners to ensure the programme’s success.

“Key to this project’s success is a collaborative approach to working and our experience from year three, alongside our excellent relationships with our supply chain, has enabled us to cultivate a transparent and productive way of working at every level, from client to project management, to our specialist consultants and lift contracting partners.”

Wates Smartspace is delivering the work alongside a number of lift contractors, including Scotec Lifts Kone, Pickerings, Classic Lifts, UK Lift and  lift consultants TUV – SUD Boardman.

This programme adds to Wates Smartspace’s growing portfolio of fit out projects on behalf of the DWP, including its Blackpool Peel Park Offices and Hastings and Birmingham.
