E-Mobility: E.ON wins major contract to build charging network
  • E.ON installs one of the largest charging networks in Germany for the BMW Group
  • Half of the more than 4,100 charging points will also be publicly accessible

E.ON has received a major order from the BMW Group: The company will install and operate one of the largest charging networks in Germany at BMW Group locations. In the future, BMW employees and guests will be able to recharge their electric vehicles comfortably and cheaply with green electricity at more than 4,100 new charging points in the parking lots of production plants, development centers and office locations. Around half of the charging points will be accessible to the public. The first charging points can already be used in December. The project should be completed by 2021.

In addition, drivers of BMW Group company cars in Germany will also be able to charge their electric vehicles at home. E.ON has developed a product that offers delivery, assembly and operation of a high-quality charging stations in a garage or other private parking space from a single source. With the delivery of the charging station, E.ON offers the opportunity to purchase 100 percent green electricity from hydropower via a tariff for residential customers.

“E.ON and BMW assume a high degree of responsibility for the future of energy and mobility in their respective industries. Our cooperation is proof that the market for tomorrow’s mobility is gaining strength. E.ON will now do everything in its power to offer BMW employees and guests a comfortable charging experience,” says E.ON Board Member Karsten Wildberger.

The plans for Germany mainly include alternating current charging stations with an output of 11 kilowatt (kW), but also DC fast-charging stations with an output of 50 kW. The power supply is provided by renewable energies. A large proportion of the charging points will be installed in the greater Munich area. Further locations are Berlin, Leipzig, Regensburg, Landshut, Wackersdorf and Dingolfing.

E.ON’s e-mobility strategy focuses on the construction and operation of charging infrastructure for companies and related services. The partnership with BMW is the largest order for this business to date. This success was made possible by E.ON’s and innogy’s e-mobility units working closely together for the first time on a customer solution. E.ON is responsible for sales, installation, service and energy, while innogy contributes the technology with charging boxes, hardware and software.

This press release may contain forward-looking statements based on current assumptions and forecasts made by E.ON Group Management and other information currently available to E.ON. Various known and unknown risks, uncertainties, and other factors could lead to material differences between the actual future results, financial situation, development or performance of the company and the estimates given here. E.ON SE does not intend, and does not assume any liability whatsoever, to update these forward-looking statements or to align them to future events or developments.
