A disused school site in Forest Hill is set to be transformed into a new residential development after the land was purchased by housebuilder Bellway.
The site, on the corner of Mayow Road and Acorn Way, was previously occupied by Our Lady & St Philip Neri Infant School, which has relocated to the nearby junior school site off Sydenham Road to form a new primary school.
The land off Mayow Road has been sold to Bellway by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark CIO, with the housebuilder now planning to build around 60 apartments across three blocks, varying in height from three to five storeys.
The development will include approximately 35 per cent affordable housing for local people and key workers.
Emma Hamlett, Sales Director for Bellway London, said: “We are delighted to have finalised the purchase of this new site in the popular residential area of Forest Hill.
“This brownfield site is particularly well located between Forest Hill and Sydenham stations, putting London Bridge just 20 minutes away by train.
“We’re confident that the apartments we will build here are just what people need and are looking for in this part of London and they will be ideal for professionals commuting into central London, for first-time buyers and downsizers alike.”
The development will comprise a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with those for private sale including 15 one-bedroom apartments, 15 two-bedroom properties and seven three-bedroom homes.
Bellway London is now carrying out community consultation before finalising its detailed plans for the site, with a planning application due to be submitted to Lewisham Council in due course.
