Shared Access and Vodafone Partner to Bring 5G to The Aviva Stadium

Shared Access, an independent owner and operator of shared wireless infrastructure, and The Aviva Stadium have successfully partnered with mobile operator Vodafone Ireland to launch 5G at the stadium. The news follows the previous investment of Shared Access to ensure all Mobile Network Operators benefit from state-of-the-art 2G / 3G / 4G connectivity at the premier sporting venue in Ireland.

The new 5G coverage makes The Aviva Stadium Ireland’s first 5G connected sporting venue and highlights the ongoing work of Shared Access to invest and build the telecommunications infrastructure of tomorrow’s network in today’s sporting venues. The 5G will transform the fan experience, with enhanced live streaming potential and opportunities to incorporate new technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, to enrich live sporting occasions for the better.

Sports fans to The Aviva Stadium will now be able to enjoy a more immersive and interactive experience, either at the stadium or at home, further consolidating its position as the premier sporting venue in Ireland.

Chris Jackman, CEO of Shared Access, said:

“This 5G announcement means The Aviva Stadium will deliver best-in-class sporting action on and off the pitch. Our expertise in the installation of telecoms infrastructure in major venues is well established and this is another proud moment for Shared Access, partnering with Vodafone Ireland and The Aviva Stadium to bring sports fans the future.”

A spokesperson from Vodafone Ireland commented:

“Vodafone Ireland recently celebrated turning on 5G in the Aviva Stadium to make it the first 5G-connected Stadium in Ireland. This key milestone in the evolution of 5G technology and user experience was realised in close collaboration with Shared Access and Stadium Management. Vodafone Ireland will continue to work closely with both parties in the months ahead to further enhance the stadium experience for players, management, supporters and patrons alike.”

Martin Murphy, CEO of Aviva Stadium, added:

“Working closely with Shared Access as our telecommunication infrastructure partner, and Vodafone, we have been able to ensure 5G connectivity is live at the stadium. The Aviva represents both national and international football and rugby and our goal as always is to ensure we have a strong technical and financial solution for connectivity, both now and into the future.”

This 5G announcement with Vodafone Ireland and The Aviva Stadium marks an impressive track record for Shared Access, showcasing expertise to partner with both state-of-the-art sporting venues and Mobile Network Operators alike.
