A unanimous vote has seen plans approved for 229 homes to be built as part of a mixed-use scheme at Barking Riverside, one of Europe’s most important placemaking projects.
Bellway London has acquired the land for the development and intends to begin construction work at the site this summer, after planning permission was granted by Barking and Dagenham Council.
The site, located at Plot 209B within the wider scheme, will comprise a mix of apartments and townhouses in buildings three to nine storeys high, as well as space for retail outlets and restaurants.
It will be the fourth development to be built by Bellway London at Barking Riverside, where construction work is continuing on the housebuilder’s Fielders Quarter development off Fielders Crescent.
Barking Riverside is growing to become a new neighbourhood of over 10,000 homes, commercial and leisure space, new schools and facilities, public open spaces and riverside walks. Connectivity will be enhanced by a new London Overground station and an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers pier, both due to open in 2022.
Bill Kenneally, Regional Director of Bellway London Partnerships, said: “With planning consent secured, we are looking forward to making a further important contribution to the delivery of new homes within this flagship regeneration project.
“Located on the former Barking Power Station site, Barking Riverside will completely revitalise this brownfield land into a desirable and well-connected new neighbourhood on the banks of the Thames.
“Plot 209B will provide a mix of apartments and townhouses to meet the demand from buyers in the capital, as well as creating space for restaurants and retail outlets which will add to the wider development’s leisure offering.
“Two private courtyards in the centre of the site will provide a communal space for residents while residential car parking and cycle storage facilities will also be included as part of the development.”
Bellway London Partnerships is currently building one, two and three-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom townhouses at Fielders Quarter.
